Working in construction can be incredibly dangerous. There are many admittances to the hospital each year because of construction accidents. This can be avoided most of the time, but sometimes, if the accident is going to happen, it will happen. Somethings can not be avoided. It might be faulty equipment or simply a faulty accident. But there are ways to minimise the risks and dangers. There are things your boss can do and things that you can do.

The top tip will seem obvious, but some people forget about ait. Always wear PPE.  the minimum would be hard hats, safety boots and high vis clothing. Safety boots can ensure that you have a better gi on the surface that you are walking on. This is great for slippery surfaces or uneven terrain or even loose sand bases. Construction sites will have a lit of debris and safety boots can help protect you from slips and falls. They also offer protection from falling objects. The toes are often steel-tipped to prevent damage to the toes. Hard hats will protect your head and high vis clothing will mean that you are seen when it comes to forklifts and other such equipment that requires a driver. (source)

That is the minimum. It is also recommended that you wear safety goggles. There is a lot of dust on a construction site and this can protect your eyesight when you are cutting into wood or brick. This also protects your eyesight from sparks when cutting into metal. High grip gloves ensure that you are less likely to drop things. When you have a loud task or are around a loud task, noise-cancelling ear muffs can protect your hearing from damage. Finally, if you have a task that produces a lot of dust or fumes, request respiratory equipment so that you are not inhaling substances that can damage your health. (source)

Try and keep your work area tidy. This is not always possible, it is a construction site. But keeping your area as tidy as possible reduced the chances that you or someone else will trip on something or that something will fall. If you are not using it, put it to one side until you are. (source)

Report any issues that occur as soon as you can. This can mitigate any potential problems that can occur. For Example, if some equipment may be faulty, reporting this before use can prevent a major accident. Reporting problem colleagues can do the same. These only a few minor things but can make the world of difference. (source)

Keep yourself qualified is the final tip that I can offer you. Things change in every business so quickly now. Technology changes and evolves and keeping your training up to date will mean that you are on top of the latest developments. This means that by having this training, you are not using equipment that may have been updated since your last training and you will know how to use it. It means that you know the latest techniques to prevent accidents. (source)
